This website has been created for a university project to assist students in understanding the principles of authentic learning and how technologies can be used by students as cognitive tools to support classroom learning. It also provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate safe, responsible and ethical practices when working on the web.
Herrington (2006) and Lombardi (2007) suggest that when learners are immersed and engaged in authentic learning environments they are exposed to the complexities of ill-defined real-world problems that provide opportunities for students to learn and practice these important portable skills. The increasing availability of new technologies provides the opportunity for educators to offer students a more real-world learning experience (Lombardi, 2007) to help students transfer the concepts they learn in the classroom to their modern world lives (Herrington, Reeves, & Oliver, 2010).

The process of historical inquiry develops transferable skills, such as the ability to ask relevant questions; critically analyse and interpret sources; consider context; respect and explain different perspectives; develop and substantiate interpretations, and communicate effectively. (The Australian Curriculum, n.d. para. 1).
In completing this project students will develop both the knowledge and skills to demonstrate achievement of specific Year 7 History standards as outlined in the Western Australian Curriculum (See Curriculum page for more details).
